La Piragua (Cumbia)

Title: La Piragua
Album: Available on ZIN volume 26 (made available to ZIN who were members during the time of release). This song is also available in about 50 different versions on iTunes, but most of them are different from the one on ZIN. The closest version is by Madera Buena (that I could tell...I didn't listen to them all).

Written Choreo

o = Intro

A = two cumbia side steps (leaps) to the right with assisting arms, then two leaps to the left with assisting arms. TEMPO = very slow! 1/2 water tempo. One leap for every 4 beats of music. This is a Level 2 move.

P = fast hand chops in the water at 1 or 2x land tempo. Slice the water for the least amount of resistance. Both feet are planted firmly on the floor of the pool. This is a grounded move.

O = Rotate/isolate the hips and stomp one foot while traveling similar to land tempo. This is a grounded move. Make sure the class is not floating or up on their toes otherwise they will not have enough traction to travel. (R) means travel to the right (L) means travel to the left "Circle" means stand in place and do a cumbia stomp turn OUT in the direction you were already traveling, not in like we do on land. You will hear/feel all this in the music. Don't stress over when to switch legs or when to turn.

Video (Will be added in a few days or as soon as I find out what the kids did with the batteries! hah)
